Louis R. Aguiar

November 28, 1923 ~ February 7, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
On February 7th Louis R. Aguiar, a resident of Concord for some sixty years, left this life to rejoin his beloved wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Steve Gifford of Escalon; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Joseph of Brentwood; his grandson Jarrett Joseph, and his wife Kristina of Antioch; his grandson Matthew Joseph, and his wife Nicole of Concord; his granddaughter Sarah Ankerman, and her husband Brian of San Diego; his great-granddaughter Grace Ankerman and his great-grandson Bentley Joseph; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. His care givers, Ricky and Mitchell, have become extended family to us and we cannot thank them enough for all they did to help him fulfill his wish of remaining in his own home during his final years. Their job was to provide care, but they freely gave their love and friendship, and it was cherished.
He was born November 28th 1923 in Oakland to Mike and Minnie Aguiar, and raised in a bustling family home that included 3 girls, and 7 boys. Lou learned at an early age the value of hard work, integrity, and a positive attitude. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. By the time he was a senior at Oakland’s Fremont High School he was proficient in the Morse code, and along with his friends, built the PA system at the school. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in the middle of his senior year of high school, largely because of his knowledge of radios and the Morse code. During the Second World War he served as a signalman in the Caribbean, the North Atlantic, North Africa, and Sicily. After his service in the North African and Middle Eastern area Lou was ordered to return to New York for the commissioning of the USS Harry E. Hubbard. The Hubbard saw action at Okinawa, as well as post war duties in Manchuria, Korea, and China. Lou came home to the Bay Area, and his first wife, Stephanie Danczuski, whom he met, and married, while in New York. Lou also served onboard a destroyer, the USS Evans, during the Korean War, but always referred to the Hubbard as “My Ship”.
After returning from World War two he found work with McKesson as a sales representative. He thrived as one of the top representatives over his 44 years there.
In May of 1954 Lou and Stephanie welcomed a little girl, Pamela Joy, into the world. As sometimes happens, Lou and Stephanie, separated, but after a time he was able to reconnect with Pamela. Lou met his second wife, and best friend, Bonnie, while making a sales call at Concord Drug, where she worked. They fell in love quickly, and deeply, and remained best friends until Bonnie’s passing in March of 2014. Together they shared their love and affections with their friends and family, and spoiled their three grandchildren tirelessly. Family can picture them now, reunited, dancing to western swing in the desert sunsets they enjoyed so much. His grandchildren wanted for nothing. Ever. Before he passed, Lou was able to see his first two great-grandchildren come into the world, and tell them both “Papa loves you”, as their parents have heard throughout their lifetimes.
Lou was a longtime member of the Concord Elks lodge, serving as an officer several times, as well as both an Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. He was a student of his passions and invested countless hours taking golf and guitar lessons, and loaded his own ammunition when he shot. He loved all sports, especially the teams of the bay area, but in particular was a lifelong fan of the Oakland Athletics and Golden State Warriors.
There was nothing that Lou would not personally sacrifice for the betterment of his family. We were so very fortunate, and blessed, to have had him in our lives for so long, and will endeavor for the remainder of our lives to earn that privilege.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00PM, Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road, Concord. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00AM, Monday, February 13, 2017 also at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Concord.
