Welcome to the memorial page for
Tamara (Tammy) Sue Yared
December 10, 1957 ~ March 19, 2017 (age 59)

Tammy Yared fought a fierce battle with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. For nearly two years, she tried to overcome the disease until it finally overtook her body. She was only 59 years old. Tammy leaves behind her three children Ryan, Kyle and Kayla, her daughter-in-law, Danielle, her grandson, Daxton, her granddaughter Nevaya, her mother, Elaine, her sister, Jalayne, Kyle’s partner, Summer, and Kayla’s partner, Thomas. Her husband, Bob (Robert) Yared, passed away in 2015 from kidney cancer.

Tammy was dearly loved by all who knew her, for her kindness, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life. During her journey with cancer, everyone admired her strength, courage, and grace to get through very rigorous treatment. Tammy was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, regardless of her own personal circumstances.

Tammy was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She only lived in the state of Illinois for three weeks because her family moved to San Francisco, California to start a new life. Her father started a new furniture showroom on the west coast for his company. Eventually, he and his wife, Elaine, started their own interior design business, McCune Showroom, Inc., in Jackson Square.

The family lived in Marin for four years and eventually moved to the Marina District. Tammy attended elementary and middle schools in the Marina, and finally Lowell High School. She spent a semester abroad in France and graduated six months early. Occasionally, Tammy worked in the family business after school. She also worked part-time at Agnew’s Pharmacy on Chestnut Street. All the shop owners on Chestnut knew Tammy – from the butcher, the flower vendor, the grocer. Tammy was known as the the cute girl with the long brown hair, dark olive eyes, friendly “Hello” and kind word as she passed by. Tammy started a lively cosmetic business at Agnew’s and had many customers that shopped there to get her advice on makeup. After graduating high school, she attended City College of San Francisco to get her AA degree and then got a job working at the FBI.

Tammy met her future husband, Bob, while still in high school. They continued a long distance relationship while Bob worked in the canneries in Alaska. In 1982, the two got married. Tammy and Bob moved to Concord, California around the time that their first son, Ryan, was born. The two bought a house with Tammy’s mother, Elaine, where they lived and grew a family for over 30 years.

Tammy had a love of travel, including cruises, exploring Europe, and visiting Bob’s family in the Philippines. Tammy’s passion carried over to her work as a part time travel agent. While her children were in school, Tammy started working part-time at Mountain View Elementary in food services and continued the job well beyond all of her children graduating high school. Tammy worked for Macy’s in Walnut Creek, where she worked for nine years. Tammy was very involved in her children’s activities: including volunteering at Clayton Valley Parent Preschool, volunteering and supporting her children and their teams at baseball, bowling, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and swimming events, and participating in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Tammy was also very close to her husband’s large Filipino family. She and her husband hosted many holiday gatherings and summer barbecues for family and friends. The Yared family household was always a place of food, family, love, and laughter.

For Tammy, family and close friends were the essence of life.

In lieu of flowers, Tammy asked donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
