Ron Miller
August 8, 1935 – March 17, 2017

George Ronald Miller passed away peacefully on March 17, 2017 with family by his side following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  He was cared for by his wife Joanne of 54 years and is also survived by his sister Shirley of Walnut Creek, son Kevin of El Cerrito, daughter Kristen of London, and grandsons Dylan and Jack.

Ron was born August 8, 1935 in Sterling, Colorado and moved to California with his parents when he was five.  Ron played football as a first-string kicker at John Swett High School in Crockett and graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in History in 1958.  He was in the US Army in Baumholder, Germany where he made lifelong friends from the service.

He met Joanne Pickles through friends, and they married in 1962.  They raised their family and dog Mickey in Concord and sent their kids to local schools, where they were active in sports, Boy Scouts, and college prep.  Ron worked as a commercial property appraiser at the Contra Costa County Assessor’s Office, retiring in 1996 after 35 years.  He took pride in his home, designed the yard, and loved maintaining it.  He and Joanne enjoyed traveling and treasured time at their Donner Lake cabin with family and friends.

Services are 10am Friday, March 24th at First Lutheran Church, 4000 Concord Blvd. with burial at Oakmont Cemetery following.  Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or East Bay SPCA.
