Ed passed away on July 26,2017 in Walnut Creek after a three month struggle with heart disease. He was the fifth of six children born to Blaine and Carrie Conner.

He was born in Napa California but grew up in Manteca, CA where he graduated from Manteca High School. After graduation he worked for Spreckels Sugar Company and then with his father as a painter and carpenter. In 1940 he joined Operating Engineers Local 3 in San Francisco where he worked on a crane. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corp. He was stationed the majority of his enlistment in Canada and Alaska where he worked as an aircraft mechanic repairing B17 Bombers bound for the war effort. He was discharged in 1945 when he returned to San Francisco and to Operating Engineers to work as an industrial mechanic repairing and servicing construction equipment both big and small. Ed maintained this career until he retired in 1980.

He enjoyed fishing, a hobby he pursued as long as he was physically capable. He loved the challenge of fixing things that were broken and would repair just about anything mechanical. During his retirement years he enjoyed gardening and crafts. He especially enjoyed woodturning and the turning of pens.

Ed is survived by his two sons Edwin (Sandy) and Donald; five grandchildren Brian (Diana), Kristin, Julie (Russ), Shannon (Forrest), and Ryan (Lindsay); plus five great-grandchildren Ellie, Trenton, Logan, Daniel, and Jacob. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Nellie Conner in 2001.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30am on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Rd., Concord. Interment will be on Friday at 11:00am at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
