Thomas Caetano Barreto

December 2, 1945 ~ October 28, 2021 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

Thomas “Thommy” Caetano Barreto went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on October 28, 2021. Thommy was born December 2, 1945 in Nairobi, Kenya to Santarita and Abel (Bella) Barreto, the second youngest of seven children. He spent his childhood years in Goa, India and attended Chowgule College of Arts & Science. After college, he returned to Nairobi and in his early twenties moved to Tanzania. After a short period, he went back to Goa and eventually travelled to Muscat, Oman where he was employed for a couple years. In 1980, he married his one and only love, Maria. For the rest of his life, he affectionately called her “Darl”, which was his nickname for her as his darling. They migrated to Concord, California in 1983, where he began his dedicated accounting career of 25 years with Chevron Corporation until his retirement.  His finest accomplishment and greatest joy was being a father to their three daughters, Candice, Vanesa, and Jocelyn. In 1996, he relocated his family to Antioch, California. Thommy’s past and present hobbies included fishing, swimming at the beach, singing, playing soccer, watching sports especially the 49ers and Warriors, working on his cars, playing trivia games with the kids, and planting various fruits and vegetables for everyone to enjoy. He enjoyed sharing his stories about his adventures in Africa and Goa. His devotion to his Catholic faith guided him throughout his life. Thommy was extremely charismatic, had a great sense of humor and style, always had a smile on his face, was a kid at heart, and loved by everyone he met. He was a dedicated, loving husband and father who always put his family first. Their time together was far too short, but so incredibly happy, filled with laughter and joy. He will be tremendously missed by all who loved him, but never forgotten.

Thommy is survived by his darling wife of 41 years, Maria; loving daughters Candice, Vanesa, and Jocelyn. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Santarita and the late Abel Barreto. He was a brother/brother-in-law to the late Exu (Tilda) Barreto, Lucy (Reggie) Soares, the late Josephine (the late Thomas) Noronha, the late Egid (Dorothy) Barreto, the late Vicky Barreto, and Maria Barreto. He is the son-in-law of the late Arcanjo and the late Cyrilla D’souza. He was also a brother-in-law to the late Janu (the late Angela) D’souza, the late Lazarus D’souza, the late Martin D’souza, the late Flavia D’souza, and the late Alban D’souza. He was a caring Godfather, loving Uncle, cousin and wonderful friend.
