Sandra Elena Ageno

April 25, 1953 ~ October 24, 2021 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Sandra Elena passed away on Sunday October 24, surrounded by her husband and children, after a brave battle with metastatic breast cancer. She touched so many lives, and everyone who knew her remarked on what a loving, kind, and welcoming soul she was.

Sandra was born in Santiago, Chile on April 25, 1953. She was one of 5 children born to Edo and Martha. As a young woman, she played guitar, sang in a choir, and attended college to study English pedagogy. At age 20 on April 28, 1973, she married Virgilio Ageno, and spent 48 happily married years by his side. They began to build their lives together in Chile but decided to immigrate to the US in 1974. After living in Miami, Florida, they moved to San Francisco, where they started their family with the birth of twin daughters, Beatriz and Paula, in 1981. After a move to Alameda, their family was complete with the birth of a son, Mauricio, in 1986. After spending some time with their family in Chile in 1991, they decided to move back to the US and settled permanently in Concord.

Sandra was a devout working mother, raising her children and taking care of her home while also working in the hospitality industry in San Francisco hotels. She was known as a warm and caring co-worker by others in her industry. Throughout her life, she worked at the Hyatt Regency, Parc 55, and Omni Hotels. After years of hard work, she retired in 2016 and spent the last years of her life taking care of Virgilio and their home. Throughout her life, she and Virgilio were blessed to travel to Europe, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile. Her greatest joy in her life was her family. She loved to celebrate her family’s birthdays and holidays and to bring everyone together. She enjoyed reading, travelling, watching old movies and being with her loved ones.

She is survived by her husband Virgilio, her children, Beatriz Beggs, Paula Dillon, and Mauricio Ageno, her sons-in-law Matt Dillon and Keith Beggs, her daughter-in-law Kaylin Ageno, and by her beloved grandchildren Iris and Evan Dillon, and Greyson and Locklan Ageno. She is also survived by her beloved family in Chile: her siblings Martha, Flora, Hector, and Aquiles, as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who all loved her and grieve her loss. She is preceded in eternal rest by her beloved parents, Edoriberto Vargas del Campo and Martha Palero and by her baby sister Eloisa. Her generous and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 10:00 am and a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am. A small reception will follow at her daughter Paula’s residence.
