October 28, 1932 ~ April 28, 2021 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Tribute

Sam Zorich was born October 28, 1932 in San Francisco, CA to Sam and Angelena Zorich, immigrants of Yugoslavia. On April 28, 2021 at the age of 88 Sam passed away peacefully, in his home with Carrie, his wife of 64 years, by his side.

Sam grew up in San Francisco attending Balboa High School and worked weekends at his parent’s restaurant. After graduation he attended San Francisco State University, he was not able to finish his final semester, the United States Army had other plans and he was drafted.

Sam served his country during the Korean conflict, he worked as a Supply Corporal. When he returned from Korea he spent time working for Tidewater Oil, then became part business owner of Thunderbird Plastics managing sales. After selling their company, he worked for American Latex and would eventually go to work for the County of Alameda in the elections department and retired from the department of public health for the County. Sam received his real estate license and spent several years of his ‘retirement’ selling real estate for Mason-McDuffie.

One evening at a garage party he met his future wife, Carrie. Sam and Carrie were married in 1957. It was in 1971 the family moved from San Francisco to Orinda. Sam became active in the Lion’s club, and was honored for his volunteer and charity work with the Melvin Jones Fellow award and he held several officer positions over the years.

Sam loved being a showman. He was a member of the Razzmatazz performance group. He would act, sing, and dance in numerous productions in the 1970 and 80’s, with proceeds for charity. As an active SIR, Sam was a Little Sir in 2013, a Big Sir in 2014, BEC Director in 2015, and the position of Club Activity Chairman.

Sam loved to travel and ventured to many far away destinations, as well as, extensively within the United States. He loved to travel with his family and close friends or making new friends along the way. His passions also included a good game of cards, Pedro anyone??, monthly lunches at the Fratellanza Club, playing bocce ball, a good SF Giants game, watching the 49ers, even attending the Super Bowl XIX at Stanford.

Sam’s strong Catholic faith guided him throughout his life. As the family patriarch Sam would always deliver the blessing before a meal, asking all to “assume an attitude of prayer”.

As Sam’s family grew over the years, his children would marry, grandchildren were born and even a great-grandchild. Sam is survived by his wife Carrie, his sister Millie Delmas, children, David (spouse Barbara), Debbie (spouse Neil), and Paul (spouse Jeni), his grandchildren Mark (spouse Jelena), Brett, Nelson, Lane, and Samantha, and his great-granddaughter Cora.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at St. Monica Catholic Church, Moraga, CA. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to City of Hope in Sam’s name.
