Ruben Francisco Lapus

January 6, 1950 ~ September 29, 2021 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Tribute

“Ruben (Ben) Lapus, devoted husband of 44 years, loving father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 29, 2021 at the age of 71.

Ruben is survived by his loving wife, Aurora Lapus; his children, Chuck, Charlene, and Merve; and his exuberant grand children, Jazz, Zyphe, Audrey, Brooklyn, Simone, Aleenah, and Bianca.

Ruben was born in Manila, Philippines in 1950 to Florentino Lapus and Juliana Francisco. Though his upbringing was often fraught with instability, Ruben’s determination was unbreakable, and he ultimately graduated Cum Laude from Far Eastern University with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Commerce, and soon after completed his master’s degree in Business Administration from Ateneo University.  On December 19, 1976 he married Aurora, the love of his life.

On October 10, 1977 and August 14, 1979 respectively, he welcomed their three wonderful children into the world, who ultimately became the name sake of his first business, and the drive for his success. In the early 80s, Ruben and his wife ultimately settled in Pittsburg, CA.

Ruben thrived through the relationships he built, and it was his drive to collaborate and succeed that built his business acumen.  From humble beginnings selling balut to local oriental stores, to starting his first company, CTM Trading, and ultimately spending his last 20 years as a leading New York Life luminaire.  He put people and trust at the center of his work, where humor and hospitality framed his legacy.  Ruben’s work focused squarely to ensure his family received the education and experiences his upbringing was unable.  He was passionate about food, travel, dancing, and basketball, but nothing was more important to him than time with his family.

So often a man of few words, but we will always remember his commitment to keeping connected with friends, his investment in his family, and his love for bringing people together.

We take joy in knowing he is resting comfortably, and once again reunited with his beloved family and friends in heaven.  We have no doubt that he is smiling over us, and driving laughter in the afterlife with his quick wit.  He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.”
