Philip Charles Skillman passed away on Monday August 23rd after a courageous battle with kidney disease and complications of diabetes. He touched many lives with his gentle and loving spirit.
Philip was born in San Francisco, CA and graduated from College Park High School in 1978. Philip then entered the Sheet Metal trade working through his apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman in 1985. Philip was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 104 for 30 years and had many friends within the trade. He became a welding instructor for the SMW union and taught many apprentices the welding trade at night after working a full day. Philip then became a Certified Welding Inspector and continued to work for the SMW union teaching and certifying welders for the union. Philip retired from the Sheet Metal trade in 2013 and started the life of a retiree. Philip loved the sound of a nearby motorcycle, and enjoyed riding his Indian. He also enjoyed working on restoring his 1954 Chevy pickup truck. He loved to golf with his friends and lost many golf balls on the course. He spent his Friday evenings in the summer playing softball with his friends, the Rusty Juveniles. He loved traveling and spending time with his family.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen, his devoted children Cory and Teresa, his mother Martha, and his siblings Spencer, Elizabeth and John. Philip has a large extended family and loved to stay in touch with his cousins, nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his father, Harold Frances Skillman.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 9 am to 12 noon at Ouimet Brothers Funeral Chapel in Concord California. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Philip on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Bonaventure’s Church 5562 Clayton Rd, Concord California.
