Tribute

Norma Louise Harrison
December 15, 1924 - March 5, 2018
Resident of Concord

In loving memory of Norma Louise Harrison, who passed away Monday, March 5, 2018. She was 93.

Norma Feiteria grew up in Pauwela, Maui, with her sister Vivienne. She met Arthur Harrison at a friend’s wedding in Los Angeles, and they were married in August 1947 in Oakland. She lived in Concord for more than 68 years, and worked as an elementary school teacher in the Oakland and Mt. Diablo Unified School districts, including Hillcrest Elementary, Willow Creek Elementary and Fair Oaks Elementary.

After raising eight children and retiring from teaching, Norma traveled with her best friend, Peggy Hamel, all over the world to sites of religious significance, including Fátima in Portugal and Medjugorje in Bosnia. She was a very active parishioner at St. Agnes Church and Queen Of All Saints, both in Concord. She found great comfort and joy in the church.

Norma was a devoted grandmother, often doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved woodworking, and she would often carve special pieces for her friends and family. Norma also loved crocheting and created blankets and hats for all her children and grandchildren.

Norma was so proud of her peaceful backyard. She spent many hours working in her tranquil garden and feeding her birds. Norma was so beloved by her backyard birds that the hummingbirds would buzz around her while she filled their feeders. A true caretaker, Norma was a kind soul, who was always willing to help someone in need, whether through volunteering at local hospitals, buying a hungry person a meal, or letting family and friends stay at her home in times of crisis.

Norma will be missed by many, including her children: Celeste Mansfield of Concord, Arthur Harrison, Jr., of Sparks, Nev., Pamela Amaro of Walnut Creek, Pat Johnson of Antioch, Christine Johnson of Antioch, James Harrison of Antioch, and Paul Harrison of Antioch; her 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was an acting mother to Jeanne Schulz and her son. Norma was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Harrison in 1973, and her son John Harrison in 2017.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the rosary starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12, at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road in Concord. A funeral is planned for Tuesday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Queen Of All Saints, 2390 Grant Street in Concord.
