Nelson Wong

Nelson Wong was born August 2,1946 to Donald Wong and May Louie Wong in San Francisco at Chinese Hospital.  He was joined in this family by Lillian Wong Who proceeded him in death in 2022 and June Lee (Dennis) and Tim Wong (Anita).

He attended Old St. Mary’s Catholic elementary school then moving on to Sacred Heart Boys High School. He attended San Francisco City College and St. Mary’s in Moraga.

Nelson Joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1966. This Began a 38 year career where he rose through the ranks from Distribution Clerk to Manger of a carrier Complex. He held many positions in the Postal Service where he met many colleagues across the United States who later became lifelong friends.

Nelson met his wife Joyce in the Postal service and in 1969 they were united in Holy matrimony at Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church in San Francisco. This was the beginning of 54 years of many adventures. In 1971 they welcomed their daughter Sonia. Nelson and Joyce went on to unofficially care for several more daughters, Macalla and Leigh Martinez, Marcelle Letsch an exchange student from Luxemburg and Sonja Dejoni and a few in between.

After retiring from the Postal Service spent their time doing volunteer work with the ay Area Crisis Nursery, Meals on Wheels and Loaves and fishes, Knights of Columbus. Nelson took up golf and volunteered as a golf Marshall this allowed him to play for free. Nelson was a very frugal person. Nelson and Joyce took many cruises from Hawaii to the Mediterranean and Alaska down to the Caribbean, making new friends wherever they went.

Nelson’s pride and joy were his daughter Sonia and his granddaughter Alana. He was looking forward to Alana’s Graduation from the University of Drexel University in June. They truly had a special place in his heart.

Nelson was an avid 49er fan having attended games since their days in the old Keiser stadium.

Nelson is survived to mourn his death by his wife Joyce Wong of Concord, His daughter Sonia Wong (Vince)and granddaughter Alana Dallmann of Fairfield California. Tim Wong (Anita), of San Bruno California June Lee (Dennis) of Anacapa California, nieces April, and Ashley and nephews Eugene (Gene) and Robert (Bobby)

He will live in the hearts of his family and friends, but he will be truly missed.
