Michael William Neward

Michael William Neward, 73, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2021 at his home in Walnut Creek, CA after a brief illness.
Born on July 31, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Frank L and Emita C Neward.
Michael graduated from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan with a degree in Accounting. He was in the process of retiring from his CPA career after 47 years.

He moved from Michigan to California in 1976 to continue his career as a Certified Public Accountant in San Francisco. Eventually, he was able to begin his own business as an independent CPA. Working independently was one of the things he was most proud of because it allowed him to pursue his passion for traveling, scuba diving, running and skiing.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael and Zachary; four grandchildren, Michael, Allyson, Sydney, and Olivia; former wife Sharon; four brothers Frank, Jim, Tom, and Craig, sister-in-law Ann, and two daughter-in-laws Jannine and Julie.
Michael had a sister, Marie, who passed away in May of 2005 and an infant son, Scot, who passed away in 1979 and is buried at Oakmont Cemetery where Michael will be buried.

Despite a high handicap in golf, he successfully scored two-hole-in-ones. He won numerous medals for placing in at least the top five at running and skiing competitions. Additionally, he was an avid 49er fan who held season tickets for many years while they were playing at candlestick park.

In his later years in life, Michael substituted his foreign travels and activity in competing sports, for spending time with family. He was fortunate enough to have his son Zack and family as well as brothers living close to each other in Tampa, where he would visit regularly. He was able to enjoy the warmer weather in Southern California, visiting his son Michael’s family.

Due to Covid restrictions his family will be having a small private service with burial at Oakmont Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette, CA. Flower arrangements and well wishes can be sent to Ouimet Brothers Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Rd, in Concord, CA 94521. Because of Mike’s love of the water and his scuba diving adventures in the Florida Keys the family is encouraging donations to the Coral Restoration Foundation.
