Born September 21, 1931 in Oakland, California, Maureen Patricia Fitzgerald slipped away quietly at the age of 86 years on December 20, 2017. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family. She was the oldest daughter of Jack & Peggy Fitzpatrick, both Immigrants from Ireland. She grew up in Oakland with her Irish Catholic family including three siblings, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Maureen graduated Holy Names High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Holy Names College. She taught 3rd grade at Saint Jarlath’s Catholic School for several years. Meeting Tom across a Ping-Pong table at a Catholic Youth group, the two were married in 1954. After 59 years of faithful marriage, Thomas preceded Maureen in death, four years ago. Her two brothers have also passed away, Johnny in 1975 and Leon just three years ago. She is survived by her sister Joanne Hischier, her three children, Mary Whitehouse (Pete), Anne Lyons (Bob), and Matthew Fitzgerald (Jennifer), as well as five much loved grandchildren.

Maureen was active in her parish of Christ the King in Pleasant Hill and shared her joy, musical abilities, and beautiful faith with friends and family. She will be remembered and missed for her love of gardening, gift of hospitality, smiles, laughter and caring heart.
