Mary Kate Mullen, 84, of Concord, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, while residing at Aegis Living, Pleasant Hill. Mary Kate was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, on April 21, 1933, a daughter of the late A.J. and Harriet Lacey. She was a 1950 graduate of Meadville High School and worked until her marriage to Robert B. Mullen on November 7, 1953 at St. Brigid’s Roman Catholic Church in Meadville.

From there Mary Kate and Robert began a life-long journey together which took them to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and, ultimately, Concord where they lived and raised their family for forty-seven happy and fun-filled years. Mary Kate was devoted to her six children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She always made sure that their home was open and welcoming to all. She was a mom and homemaker in the truest sense, balancing the myriad of tasks with great aplomb, humor, and an ever-present gentle smile.

Mary Kate is survived by her beloved and devoted husband Robert, her children Kathleen (Mullen) Forsburg, son-in-law Russell Forsburg, Patrick Mullen, daughter- in-law Barbara (Carusa) Mullen, Paul Mullen, daughter-in-law Kath (Coyne) Mullen, Mark Mullen, daughter-in-law Diana (Arizpe) Mullen, Anne (Mullen) Calforda, son-in-law Thomas Calforda. Grandchildren Elizabeth (Forsburg) Pardi, Nicholas Forsburg, Danielle Mullen, Tayna (Mullen) Frame, John, Henry, and Isabelle Calforda, Emmet Mullen, and great grandson, Michael Pardi.

In addition to her parents, Mary Kate was preceded in death by a son, John Mullen, her brother John Lacey and sister Anne (Lacey) Hall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis Assisi of Church, 860 Oak Grove Rd., Concord, with Fr. Michael Sweeney, OP, presiding.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Aegis Living as well as Hope Hospice for the wonderful care Mary Kate received while in their charge.
