Martha Virginia Gonzales

Martha Gonzales was born in Los Angeles, California on March 2, 1921. She was the eldest of 12 children and shared many stories of assisting her parents with the younger siblings. Growing up during the depression, Martha left school in the 11th grade to help the family. She had one child, Lillian, who has fond memories of taking the bus downtown to meet her mother in the garment district. Although she spent half her working career in the garment industry in downtown Los Angeles, Martha later finished high school and began a second career with Pacific Bell and later transferred to San Francisco, residing in Concord to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was widowed in 1973 and remarried in 1976, to Roger Gonzales and enjoyed his family. She retired at the young age of 69 and widowed again in 1993. She went on to enjoy her extended family, babysitting her great grandkids, attending bible study and competing in the Concord Bocce League. Martha was an avid reader, loved flowers, and had a taste for the flamboyant. She lived a full life and celebrated her 100th birthday this past March with three of her four great great grandchildren. She passed quietly at home with her daughter Lillian beside her on April 30, 2021. She was a joy to her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and will always fill our hearts with beautiful memories. She is survived by her daughter Lillian Rockfellow, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, four siblings and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 beginning with a visitation from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel (4125 Clayton Road) followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Concord (3886 Chestnut Avenue).
