Maria Ortega Cabral

58-year resident of Concord, Maria passed away peacefully in Concord surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cuidad Manuel Doblado, Guanajuato, Mexico. She lived the first 15 years of her life in Guadalajara, Mexico before leaving for Oakland, California.

It was while living in Oakland that she met and later married her husband, Leopoldo B. Cabral ✞ in Reno, Nevada on July 4, 1953. They were married for 58 years until his death in 2012. They lived in Oakland during their first years of marriage, moving briefly to Lodi before finally settling in Concord with their son Gene ✞ (who proceeded them in death in 2007). Mom worked various jobs to help supplement the family income to ensure that her daughters went to catholic schools (St. Agnes and Carondelet). She enjoyed baking, cooking and sewing crafts.  Grandma helped raise her grandchildren and loved them deeply.

She is survived by daughter Mercedes “Mercy” Cabral Ruiz, her husband Manuel, and daughters Rosamaria and Gabriela; her daughter Julie “Lana” Vasquez, her husband Jose II, son Jose III “Toto”, and daughters Erica and Mireya ✞ (preceded her in death in 2015); and daughter Yolanda Cabral, sons Eladio and Gabriel Casto, and daughter Sophia Grangnelli; and great grandchildren Lola, Veronica, Isaac, and Priscilla Castro, and Emiliano and Kamila Velasquez.

She will be greatly missed by many.
