Manuel "Manny" Griego, Jr. Passed away on Tuesday, February 20 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He was a resident of concord for 46 years. He was a golden gloves boxer and a member of the Buchanan Golf Club in Concord. An accomplished golfer, he had 3 hole-in-one trophies and various other championship trophies from Torey Pines to Reno. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians out of high school, but due to family business needs, had to turn it down. He was a great horse race handicapper - loved the dollar days at Golden Gate Fields. A huge fan of the Giants Baseball and 49ers.
He served in U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. The man could dance - everything from ballroom and Latin to rock,n roll. He was famous in the family for his wit. Many memorable holiday dinner toasts are remembered years later.
He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and grew up on a family owned and operated dairy, orchards and truck farm. He graduated from Albuquerque H.S. and competed in many college level courses during his 37 years of service with the U.S. Navy at Hunters Point, San Francisco and Mare Island, Vallejo and retired as a Logistics Manager.
He was predeceased by his parents, Manuel Griego and Filomena Dubois, daughter Victoria, brother Claudio and sisters Renie and Rose.
He ls survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane. Sons Jerry, Matthew (Jennifer) and Paul (Lang}; sister Renie Catherine and brother Fred; nieces Betsy, Karen, Michelle, Andrea and Tonya; Granddaughters Rose, Elena and Cheyenne. Grandsons Manny Jr. Cody, Dominic and Jared. Great-grandsons Maddox and Aiden.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Life on Friday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Rd., Concord, CA.
