On Friday, April 27th, 2018, Leo Joseph Turrin passed away peacefully of natural causes at age 88.
Leo and his identical twin, Arthur, were born October 20, 1929, in Alameda, CA to Teresa and Antonio Turrin. Moving to Pleasant Hill in 1934, Leo resided in Contra Costa County for 83 years. He graduated from Mt. Diablo High School in 1948 as Class President. It’s also where he met his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Barbara Turrin (predeceased in 2016).
Leo worked in construction with his brother and father at A. Turrin & Sons throughout Northern California on projects like Kirker Pass, Lawrence Berkeley Labs, and Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. He later worked in marine construction and then went on to work at Evans Brothers, Inc. well into his 70’s. He never stopped calculating how to improve roadways and buildings even in his retirement.
Leo enjoyed home renovation projects and building the family home. He liked landscaping, gardening, spending time with his family and traveling. Always patient and kind with a lighthearted sense of humor and a smile, Leo was a true family man. He is survived by his two sons, Mark (Kelly) Turrin and Brent (Margie) Turrin; four granddaughters, Danielle (Freddy) Turrin, Jessica (John) Angelo, Courtney (Will) Turrin and Schyler Turrin; and great-grandson, Harrison Angelo. Leo will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Special appreciation for the support provided by caretaker Marie O’Malley and Lifecare Solutions Hospice.
Farewell services will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA on Monday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m.
