On Saturday, February 26, 2022, Kay Holcombe was reunited with her beloved husband, Joe.
She is survived by her four children, Colleen Holcombe, Kevin Holcombe, Michael Holcombe and Neil Holcombe (Karen), her granddaughter Fiona Elkins (Ryan) and three great grandchildren, Aiden, Colin and Meara. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her three sisters, Betty, Donna and Maureen. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and was very active in the school chorus and the various musicals put on at her school. She met her great love, Joe Holcombe, at Dayton’s Department Store in Minneapolis where they were both working. They were married on February 5, 1955 and eventually settled in Walnut Creek, California in the spring of 1964. She was very active in her church, St. Francis of Assisi, (formerly Most Precious Blood) and served on numerous committees including the Senior Luncheon committee and the Ladies Guild, and for many years sang with the Church Choir. She was a “hot dog lady” and taught catechism in her kitchen. She loved her role as a wife, mother, and homemaker and made holidays and birthdays, and even Wednesdays, special events, with thermos’ filled with green milk on St. Patrick’s Day, and classroom cupcakes on birthdays. She and Joe traveled extensively in their golden years, visiting Europe and many of the U.S. National Parks. She was an avid bridge player and thoroughly enjoyed bowling with a league in the 70’s, bringing home several trophies. She loved hosting the family for holidays and keeping family traditions alive. We will miss her very much, but we look forward to eventually being reunited in the next life.
Her funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2022 at 12:00 noon at St. Francis of Assisi Church; 860 Oak Grove Road in Concord.
