Brother Timothy (Joseph Thomas) Rapa, F.S.C. died peacefully at the age of 92 on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Brother Timothy was born in Providence, Rhode Island on November 2, 1925, where he attended Mount Pleasant High School. He enlisted in US Army and served in the Medical Corps from 1943-1946. He also had the distinction of landing at Normandy, France on D-Day and entering Berlin with the Allies when they occupied that city in 1945. After his service to our country, he entered the Christian Brothers Novitiate in Barrytown, New York in 1947 and received the Habit and name of Timothy on January 5, 1948. Brother Timothy pronounced his Final Vows in 1953. He received his B.A. from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. in 1952, his M.A. from Manhattan College in New York, and a Fulbright Scholarship in Italian Studies in 1962.

His tour of duty included Sacred Heart School in the Bronx, N.Y., LaSalle Academy in Providence Rhode Island, De LaSalle, Concord, Saint Mary’s College, Moraga, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, San Francisco, and finally Mont LaSalle, Napa, where he took care of the infirm Brothers. His total dedication to the Brothers and to education showed that he was very much loved, honored, and respected by all who knew him.

Brother Timothy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Pasquale and Amelia, and his sister, Anne Neri. He is survived by his brother, Louis of Scottsdale, Arizona, his niece Susan (Robert) Khalipa, and his beloved niece, Karen. His Brothers, his friends, his colleagues, and especially his former students, far too numerous to mention, are also among his “survivors.”

The viewing will occur on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in the Rotunda of the Main Chapel at Mont LaSalle, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in the Main Chapel. This will be immediately followed by Military burial in the Brothers’ Cemetery and a buffet luncheon will be served after the burial ceremony.
