Jerry Blaine Saylor

Jerry B. Saylor died Thursday, November 4th, after struggling for many weeks to overcome the side-effects of a heart attack and associated organ failure. He was born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to William Theodore Saylor and Betty Arbella (Mellert) Saylor.

The family lived in Pennsylvania until Jerry was seven and then moved to southern Arizona where his father worked as a civilian engineer for the Army. Jerry went to school in Tombstone for a year, then Sierra Vista, graduating from Buena High School. He attended Cochise College completing undergraduate classes and working at Fort Huachuca. Then he transferred to the University of Arizona where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation in 1969.

In January 1970 Jerry went to work for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation at the Portland, Oregon, regional office. While working there he met his wife. He married Lorna Irene (Toner, Keeler) in June 1976. She also enriched the marriage with two children: Charles and Katheryn.

In 1978 he was offered a promotion to the San Francisco Regional Office and the family moved to the Bay Area, settling in Concord and later moving to Clayton where he promptly filled the yard with his beloved roses. He proudly cut Lorna bouquets of his own roses for her December birthday each year. Jerry and Lorna had a friendly rivalry as their two college football teams played each other too. The Arizona Wildcats and the OSU Beavers met each year as part of the PAC 10. The loser paid for dinner out.

Jerry continued to work for the FDIC until his retirement in 2003. When Lorna retired in 2005, the couple traveled the world, enjoying trips to Europe, South Africa, India, Australia, the Panama Canal, and the Middle East.

Jerry is survived by his wife Lorna, his children; Charles (Kimberly Bridewell), Katheryn, grandchildren; Madison, Kaitlyn, and Logan, his brother and sisters; Douglas (Teresita Ti), Gloria (Robert) Sommerfeld, and Valerie Saylor.

Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at Ouimet Chapel on January 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM. 4125 Clayton Road, Concord, CA 94521. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the John Muir Foundation, Cardiovascular Services, 1400 Treat Blvd. Walnut Creek, CA 94597-2142
