Irene Ruth Stuart passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday evening after living a long successful life as devoted daughter and sister, beloved wife and loving mother and grandmother. Her generous nature extended to all she met, no matter how briefly.
Irene was born in Chicago, IL to immigrant parents. She lost her father at the tender age of six. Her family continued to reside in Chicago with the support of her now working mother and older brother. She graduated high school and attended college at Northwestern. She migrated to California, living for a time with her family in Albany, CA. She worked at the new Kaiser hospital in Oakland, and as an x-ray technician with a mobile unit screening for tuberculosis and later as a laboratory assistant in Albany. It is there she met Edward Stuart, who became her dedicated husband of 52 years. She and Ed moved to Concord after the birth of their first child, Alan. She went on to have four other children (Diane, Patricia, Edward, Jr., and David). Even with the births of her children, Irene worked as a part-time retail cashier at Capwells in Walnut Creek for over 20 years until retiring to care for her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her sister, Sylvia Boudreau of Blaine Washington, her children Alan Stuart (Sara) of El Dorado Hills, CA, Diane Barnes (Randy) of Concord, Patricia Bryson (Russ) of Clayton, Edward Stuart, Jr. (Buck) of Concord, and David Stuart (Lori) of Antioch and four grandchildren, Kristina, Jennifer, Anna Beth and William and six great grandsons. She will be dearly missed by all of those who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 10-11 am, with the funeral services immediately following at 11 am, at Ouimet Brothers Funeral Chapel, 4125 Clayton Road in Concord. Irene will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
