Helen Coble Lee

Helen Coble Lee died peacefully in the company of her children, at her home in Pleasant Hill, CA on January 25, 2019.

Helen was born in rural North Carolina, the youngest of 9 children. She moved to Washington, D.C. at the age of 14, where she met Jim Lee, to whom she was married for almost 40 years. They spent their lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Helen worked her way through college, earning a Master’s degree and LCSW, while raising James and Jené.

Helen had a fulfilling career as a social worker, building relationships with many veterans and their families. She also enjoyed shopping, Gospel music, cooking, and her beautiful garden.

Family was of paramount importance to Helen, a consummate nurturer. She maintained close ties with her East coast family and was a second mom to many, including daughter-in-law Ania, son-in-law Carter, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her three granddaughters, Arianna, Lily, and Anna filled her last decade with extra joy and love. She touched many with her tremendous strength, perseverance, and love.
