Tribute

Guillermo A. Guzmán

Guillermo A. Guzmán was born on February 10, 1935 in Las Piedras, Municipality of San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico. Guillermo passed away in Pittsburg, CA on July 15, 2021 at the age of 86. He was the son of Lucio Guzman † and Martina Aguilera † and the brother of José †, Martimiano “Nano” †, Luisa, Senaido “Nayo” †, Juana †, Maria Felicitas "Felita", Victoria, Wintila "Tila", Tomasa and Lodia. He met the love of his life, Victoria C. Márquez, and they were married in Santa María, Jalisco. The blessings continued with Maria Felicitas "Mona", Ruben†, Herminia "Minia", Humberto "Beto", Guillermo "Memo" and Concepción "Conchita". During that time, Guillermo began working with his brothers in the bracero program, taking him to work in the United States. Years later, Guillermo arranged to bring the family to the United States in 1967-1968. They settled in San Francisco, CA and the family was completed with Lucio A. “Tote” and Guadalupe “Tito”. Shortly after, they returned to Mexico and after a year they moved to San Jose, CA where he continued to work in construction and in the fields. On weekends and in the summer, he took his children to work in the fields also. It was of upmost importance to teach his children the value of family, work, respect and faith. Every day he led and prayed the rosary as a family without fail. Then they returned to San Francisco when he bought their house. In 1983, he retired from his career in construction with Lowrie Paving Co. and returned to his beautiful Mexico. He worked and sacrificed a lot to bring his family to the United States so that they could have more opportunities, but his heart always stayed in Mexico. During his life, what he loved most was being with family in La Chona or La Loma in Mexico, and also with his children in the United States. He was a grandfather, “Guelos”, of 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In the last years of his life he was always visiting his family. At age 81, he took his first vacation to Puerto Vallarta, MX with a group of family members. He was so happy! He wanted to continue his travels and also got to visit Havana, Cuba and Miami, FL. He was an admirable and very special man to everyone. The great love that Guillermo had for those who crossed his path was genuine. We are going to miss him very much and our hearts break because he will no longer be with us physically. We are very grateful for all the love he gave us, all the beautiful memories and all the stories that he told us throughout the years of his life. We will miss his special smile and his beautiful laugh. Always in our hearts, our "Handsome". May Guelos rest in peace...

Until we meet again in heaven…
