Gladys Henrich, of Concord, died peacefully in her sleep, on January 4, 2022, surrounded by her children, after a long and fulfilling life. Gladys’s joyful spirit and unending kindness will be missed by all who knew her.
Gladys was born and raised in Sayre, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Cummings) Burkhart, both of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Gladys graduated from Sayre High School and attended Mansfield State College. After getting married and having three children, she completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary education from James Paterson University. She worked as a teacher for many years in New Jersey. After moving to California in 1973, Gladys left teaching and started work in retail sales.
Gladys enjoyed travel, reading, trivia, and playing games, especially bridge. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America and was an active member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Community. Gladys is predeceased by her husband, William, and her son-in-law, Joel Packer. She is survived by her devoted children, William and Rosemary Henrich of San Diego; Andrea and Noel Teodorini of Concord; and Carolyn Henrich Packer of Silver Spring, Maryland; and leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gladys is also survived by her brother, Joseph Burkhart, and his wife Mary; several cousins; and dozens of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Ouimet Brothers funeral home at 4125 Clayton Road in Concord, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at St Bonaventure’s, 5562 Clayton Road, in Concord. Burial will follow at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, where Gladys will be interred with her husband. Friends and family are invited to a reception at 6:00 pm at 4330 Hazelwood Lane, Concord.
