Frederick Florentino Directo, 88, passed away in the early morning of May 8th in Concord. Fred was born in Staten Island, NY to Grace Belcamino and Federico Directo. He attended St. James Pro-Cathedral School in Brooklyn, Marina Junior High, and Galileo High in San Francisco.
He was an avid reader and loved classic movies. Fred could speak on many subjects and was an amazing storyteller. He had an eye for, and was passionate about, fashion. After high school his design portfolio was brought to one of the fashion designers in San Francisco.
Fred enjoyed working at St. Bonaventure Parish where he became a beloved member of the community and found dear friends.
Fred’s nieces and nephews consider themselves the most fortunate as he was very instrumental in their upbringing, and always made sure they knew how proud he was of them as adults.
He will be missed terribly but will remain in the hearts of all who loved him and will live on in the many memories shared.
Fred was predeceased by his mother, Grace Maria Celada, stepfather, Frank B. Celada, father, Federico E. Directo, brother, Lawrence Manzano, and brothers-in-law, Wil Browne, and Don Burkley.
He is survived by his sister, Anita Maria Browne, nieces, Glynis Calica, Janet Revilla (Kevin), Leilani Flores (Joshua), Lisa Amps (Kenny), and Sarah Proffitt (Cory), nephews, Michael Burkley (Linda), and Lawrence Manzano, and many great-nieces and nephews, as well as great grandnieces.
Fred’s Celebration of Life will take place Wednesday, May 31st with an 11:00AM funeral liturgy at St. Bonaventure Church, 5562 Clayton Road, Concord, CA 94521, reception immediately following in the Parish Hall.
