Evelyn L. ten Pas (Evie)
On February 28, 2019, Evelyn Louise (Max) ten Pas, Clayton, CA, passed eagerly into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born in Peoria, Illinois, February 18, 1936, the only child of her predeceased parents, Wilbur and Marguerite Max, who made their home in Annapolis, Maryland. She committed her life to Jesus Christ after attending a Billy Graham Evangelistic Crusade in Washington, D.C., February 9, 1952.
She graduated from Annapolis High School in 1954, and received a B.A. in Education and Speech (1958) and an M.A. in Oral Interpretation in the Performing Arts from Bob Jones University (1960), and pursued a Ph.D. in theatre at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the summers of 1962-1966.
Evelyn met her husband, Arend J. ten Pas, while working on a stage production of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labours Lost, and were married in 1965. Both taught at BJU until 1974. They moved to the Bay Area in 1974 where she taught at Berean Christian High School, Walnut Creek, until 2011, after which she taught homeschool students until May, 2018. She was highly esteemed by her students who frequently referred to her as “the best teacher I ever had.”
Married in 1965, they had three children, Brent (Jana Morrison), Andrea (Kris Rogneby), and Tanya (Greg Hauser). They fondly cherish her thoughtful love for her family, children and grandchildren, Janelle, Grant, Geneva, Houston, Benjamin and Christa.
The memorial service was held at Clayton Valley Church, Concord, March 9, 2019.
