Alexandra Collazos of Concord, CA passed away on April 8, 2020. Born Alejandrina Apollonia Espinoza in Barranca, Peru to parents Celestina Penadillo and Jose Espinoza. Alexandra grew up in Barranca, Peru and Huaral, Peru with her 5 siblings. Alexandra was married to Jose Teodolfo Collazos in 1940 until his passing in 1981. Alexandra and Jose raised their eight children in Lima, Peru until immigrating to Daly City in 1973.

Alexandra worked in the San Francisco service and hospitality sectors until retiring in 1995 at the age of 69. She was a leader in the Local 2 union. In her later years, Alexandra resettled in Concord, CA to be closer to her adult children and their families. Alexandra achieved her US Citizenship in 1978.

Affectionately and reverentially known as La Nona, Doña Aleja, and Mama Aleja, Alexandra was the matriarch of a connected and loving Peruvian-American family. Known for elegance, and personal style she was also an accomplished traveler and would return to visit Peru often. She also visited Jerusalem, Morocco, Egypt, Europe, and Argentina. A pioneering and brave woman, she will be remembered for her warm spirit and her exceptional Peruvian culinary talents.

Alexandra is survived by six of her eight children: Estela Amparo, Walter Agusto, Edward Americo, Oscar, Carmen Rosa, and Juan Carlos; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Alexandra is preceded in death by her husband Jose Teodolfo Collazos, grandson Andres Changeur Jr., daughter Flor de Maria Asuncion Changeur, and son Jose Manuel Collazos.

Funeral services will be held on April 14, 2020 at Ouimet Bros. Funeral Chapel in Concord, CA. This will be a private service due to the COVID -19 shelter in place restrictions.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
