Vernon Duaine Johnson was born December 25, 1930. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 12, 2018. Duaine was born in Cabool, Missouri. His parents were Florence and Donald Johnson. He moved with his parents to California as a young child. He graduated from Mt. Diablo High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Hildegard. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hildegard Johnson, daughter Carolyn Johnson (Donald) Hammond, and son Donald (Arlis) Johnson. His son, Steven Johnson preceded him in death. He has 4 grandchildren, Richard (Meghan Sweeney) Herd, Duaine Herd, Leslie (Phillip) Altman, and Craig (Danielle) Johnson, and 5 great grandchildren, Annika and Lindsay Altman, Adeline and Sophia Sweeney Herd, and James Johnson. Duaine’s hobbies were camping, woodworking, gardening, and most of all being with his family. He was an active member at Calvary Temple Church in Concord. He worked for PG&E for 38 years as a lineman and then as a trouble shooter. After retiring, Duaine and Hildegard traveled the country in their RV, volunteered in church and spent time with family and friends. Duaine will be dearly missed by all who knew him for his devotion to family, kindness and wonderful sense of humor. Services will be at Calvary Temple Church, January 20, 2018 at 11:30am.
