Mary A. Cardoza, born on March 23, 1929, to parents Donato and Cecilia Pezzuto in Crockett, CA, peacefully departed this world on January 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Concord, CA.
Mary was a woman of many talents and passions. Her love for cooking and baking was unparalleled; whenever she stumbled upon a new recipe in the paper or heard about a delightful dish, she would whip it up immediately. Her Sunday Italian gravy, cream puffs, cannolis, and fruit cakes were legendary. Her daughter, Michelle cherished the homemade angel food cake Mary made every year for her birthday, requiring a staggering 18 egg whites.
Crafting brought her immense joy, especially when shared with her dear friend Linda Nicosia. But perhaps her greatest joy was found in hosting parties, adorning her home with festive decorations, and sharing laughter with family and friends. Mary was known for her keen sense of style, often seen as a fashionista with perfectly coordinated hats, scarves, earrings, and outfits.
Dancing around the house with her daughter, being silly to her favorite tunes, was a cherished pastime. During holidays, Mary's home transformed into a wonderland. Her decorations were a spectacle, and she hosted delightful tea parties for children, featuring creatively shaped sandwiches and festive treats. Halloween brought out her playful side as she and her daughter dressed up, eagerly awaiting trick-or-treaters.
Mary was a compassionate soul, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her thoughtfulness extended to sending cards for every occasion, and she became a familiar face at the $1.00 store where she purchased her extensive collection. She radiated energy and zest for life, earning her the endearing comparison to the energizer bunny.
Traveling with her daughter brought Mary immense joy as she explored new places, with Boston and Seattle being particular highlights. In quieter moments, she enjoyed watching old movies, listening to music, and trying to solve mysteries alongside Jessica Fletcher in "Murder She Wrote."
Mary is survived by her loving daughter Michelle, grandson Andrew, granddaughter Zoe, great-granddaughter Kennedy, sister Angela Reese, Virginia Gayton who was like another daughter and several nieces and nephews. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
