Joyce Lee Locke (nee DeFrenn) died peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 3, 1931 and attended Durand and Morrice High School. She married Edward Louis Lezovich in 1954 and Edward later changed the family name to Locke. 
 
Joyce graduated from Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 and received her BSN from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA. A dedicated CCRN (Critical Care RN), she worked as a nurse for 50 years and retired from the Veteran’s Administration in 2001. While with the V.A., Joyce established their national telephone care program. Nursing was Joyce’s passion and her steadfast care and advocacy benefitted countless patients, friends and family members.
 
In 1986, Joyce married John MacKinnon Aitken and they enjoyed a 21-year marriage together until John passed away in 2007. She had one brother, Max Willard DeFrenn, deceased.
 
Joyce is survived by sons Larry Alan Locke (Jamie) of Naples, FL and Jeffry Glen Locke of Reno, NV; stepdaughters Martha Aitken (Greg Carlock) of Seattle, WA, Melissa Rodgers (Paul) of Clayton, CA and Margaret Hamersley (Ken) of Vacaville, CA; and nine grandchildren.
