JoAnn Baker

JoAnn Baker passed away on Friday, January 26th, after successfully overcoming a mild case of Covid 19, only to succumb to an underlying condition.

Mom was born in Battle Creek, MI, one of seven children born to Mike and Nellie Price.  She had 4 older brothers and 2 sisters, she being the last remaining of the 7 children. She attended Battle Creek High School graduating in 1952.  She worked as a secretary after graduation from high school, for Post Cereals (General Foods), where she met her husband David Baker.  Although they both went to the same high school, he was older and graduated the same year as her older sister Barbara in 1949.  Mom and Dad were married in January 1954.

Mom continued working as a secretary in between having 4 children, all girls!  She later worked for our backyard neighbor Mr. Hooy of Hooy & Hooy PLC (law firm), as his personal legal secretary.  Mom always worked 32 hours a week and started work on Tuesdays and Thursdays after lunch at 1:00 pm so that she could bowl on Tuesdays and golf on Thursdays.  She golfed with Miwa Koyosako and Mary Stratton and once had a hole in one at Buchanan golf course in Concord!  During the winter months she was involved in playing bridge on Thursday mornings.

JoAnn Baker was predeceased in 2016 by her husband David Baker and is survived by her 4 daughters; Dawn, Cathy, Jenny, Nancy; her 6 grandchildren Patricia, Paul, Shelby, Sara, Sam and Maya; her 6 great grandchildren Madelyn, Sabrina, William, Clark, Luke and Tilly. She is sorely missed by all.

As a memory to Mom, we would like to request that any donations made in her name, JoAnn Baker, go to Hospice House of San Joaquin County.  The Caregivers provided Mom with excellent hospice care, in a quiet, beautiful location.
